Estabrook Excels Again at SFSU
Rachael Estabrook in the 1500m

San Francisco, CA - Bruin sophomore Rachael Estabrook (Triad HS/Bonanza, OR) had a standout performance yesterday at the San Francisco State University Distance Carnival up in the "city by the bay".  Competing against mostly NCAA DII and DIII competition, Estabrook raced to major season-best improvements in both of her specialty events, the 800-meters and 1500-meters.

Estabrook continued to exibit improved strength and speed as she pushed herself through both high-quality races.  Her ability to increase her pace throughout the middle of her 800m race enabled her to finished in 26th-place out of 37 runners.  Her time of 2:28.20 was a 2-second improvement on her previous season-best, and her 2nd-fastest 800m performance ever.  In her heat of the 1500m she lead the field until the final turn when she was passed by a handfull of runners, but still managed to finish in 25th-place out of 36 runners.  Her time of 5:03.88 was another major improvement over her previous season-best, set only a week ago.

Representing the Bruin men, freshman Antony Earley (South Albany HS/Albany, OR) competed in the rarely-run 2-mile event.  He ran an gutsy and consistent pace throughout the first half of the race that would have led him to a personal-best time if he had been able to maintain it.  Unfortunately, though, the effects of another lingering case of the flu caught up with him and progressively slowed him over the final 4 laps of the race.  He still managed to finish the race in 15th-place out of 17 runners, though his time of 10:34.03 was well of his personal-best.
